raman_kleinMorphology and structural information of nanoparticles is crucial for understanding and developing new routes for their synthesis or processing. Often changes in structure and/or morphology of particles are related to an alteration of vibrational modes and/or polarization.

We use standard confocal Raman spectroscopy to evaluate the vibrational modes of bulk material in solid or liquid phase. For material coated onto an appropriate substrate, statistical confocal Raman spectroscopy can be used to probe large areas of the surface.

In addition, we are able to combine statistical Raman analysis and atomic force microscopy (AFM) for the identical probed area by using a customized sample stage. This stage can be mounted in both analytical instruments, AFM and Raman. This enables us to co-localize vibrational modes (Raman)and surface morphology probing (AFM).
